Bagenalstown
Co. Carlow
Visitors can enjoy riverside walks, or take in the historical aspect of the town from the 18th century courthouse, which is inspired by the Parthenon in Athens or perhaps visit the neo-classical railway station.
Dunleckney Manor (+353 (0) 59 072 1932, open April - August) nearby was the Bagenal family home and is worth a visit, along with plenty of activities on offer such as coarse fishing on the River Barrow, cycling, or horse riding at the Carrigbeg Stables (+353 (0) 59 972 1962).
Sports facilities in Bagenalstown include cricket, hurling, soccer and gaelic football together with tennis and pitch & putt. Picnic tables and a picturesque lock and riverside walks all add to the visitor's enjoyment. Leisure boats and barges also cruise on the Grand Canal and the River Barrow.
