Brookend nature reserve (0044 28 86 322 398) offers many rare plants and is home to a thriving woodland bird community.
Historic places of interest include Killymoon Castle, a Norman castle and Tullaghoe, an iron age sanctuary which later became the inauguration place of the O’Neill chieftains of Tyrone.
Coyle’s cottage (0044 28 86 737 564) is a charming place to visit, a 250 year old traditional mud fisherman’s cottage on the northern shores of Lough Neagh.
Ardboe Cross is the only surviving remnant of an early monastery whilst Derryloran Church dates back to 1195.
Golf enthusiasts will enjoy Killymoon golf club (0044 28 86 763 762), a challenging parkland course with nine holes.
Cookstown is home to the last working beetiling mill, the Wellbrook beetling mill (0044 28 86 748 210) is set in a picturesque wooded glen on the banks of the Ballinderry River.
Visitors to the area will enjoy walks through the Davagh Forest, a large upland coniferous forest, set in the foothills of the Sperrins with its own herd of wild Sila deer.
