2005 Award Winners HOTEL OF THE YEAR
Aghadoe Heights Hotel
Dating from the 1960's Agahadoe Heights Hotel is renowned for it's breathtaking views of the lakes and the mountains, and also overlooks Killarney's two 18-hole championship gold courses. Recent renovations and extensions have transformed it into one of Ireland's most luxurious hotels and, under the caring management of Pat and Marie Chawke, it is now a very special place. Comtemporary, airy public areas have acres of marble, origional artwork, and a relaxed, open ambience - and, from the foyer, hints of the stunning view that invite exploration: perhaps into the chic bar which links up with a new terrace and the swimming pool area (lots of lounging space for sunny days), or up to the first floor restaurant and open-plan lounge area with views over the lakes and mountains, where a delicious traditional Afternoon Tea is served each day. Accommodation is seriously luxurious, in spacious rooms with a long list of complimentary extras, generous sitting areas, balconies and lake views. A palatial flass fonted two-bedroom penthouse suite and two dozen new junior suites were recently added, and also a superb 10,000 sq ft spa and wellness centre which is among Europe's best and offers couples suites, and some treatments unique to the hotel. But at the heart of all this luxury is the caring hands-on management of Pat and Marie Chalke - the the confidence and warmth of their staff - that make this hotel so special.
