Dunany Organic Flour

The secret seems to be out as far as Dunany Flour is concerned, as it’s surprising where their beautifully understated brown paper packaging will catch your eye - and, when it does, snap it up at once in case it’s some time before you see it again.

It’s made by fourth generation farmers Andrew and Caroline Workman, who have been growing certified organic cereals - including low gluten rye and spelt - on their coastal farm since 2006 and then, in 2010 they started milling it on the farm. Here too it’s packaged in its pleasing brown paper bags, complete with a sensible do-able recipe that’s sure to encourage new bakers to have a go.

It’s lovely to see the age old tradition of flour production coming back in Ireland and the whole process - growing, drying, milling, packaging - is completed on the farm.

Dunany flour is a really good baking product, with a nutty flavour and great texture. The coarse grained wheat flour is especially recommended for soda bread, but any of these high quality flours are also a pleasure to use in yeast cookery and the low gluten flours are delicious for general use as well as a blessing for those on a low gluten diet.

If you don’t find it easily, call the Workmans to find your nearest stockist. Dunany flour is now distributed by the speciality artisan foods distributors, Taste The View (www.tastetheview.ie), so it may be nearer than you think.
