Llewellyns Orchard

When David Llewellyn started out 10 years ago, he was just growing apples and selling them. Then like many other farmers, he started looking for ways to add value to his crop. The first product he developed was apple juice, then in a logical next step, cider (and then after that, cider vinegar). There was no Irish cider available in Ireland that could qualify as ‘real’ cider when David started experimenting with it.

David makes his Double L Irish Cider from Irish apples only, using different apple varieties. After years of experimenting, the cider is now made with a blend of Dabinett apples and a range of apples including Bramleysand various sweet dessert varieties.

Although David has made single-variety ciders in the past, currently his two mainstay ciders are the Bone Dry and Medium Dry versions. As David himself says, ‘Double L is Irish cider as it should be! No water, no sugar, no pussy-footing!’

David also runs cider-making courses in the autumn. Check the website or contact him for details of dates and locations.

Double L Irish Cider is available from farmers’ markets, the Drink Store and Celtic Whiskey Shop in Dublin, and in bulk from the farm, by arrangement. Contact David directly for a more complete lists of stockists.
