101 Talbot Restaurant

About 20 years ago, 101 Talbot hit upon a winning formula of serving good, affordable food in relaxed surroundings.

Today this restaurant, recently taken over by management, continues to pack its tables 5 nights a week, with the emphasis still very much on value and flavour.

The decor remains decidedly modest, and the Talbot Street location still a little dreary, but the animated chatter that greets you as you enter the first-floor dining room should be enough to reassure you that this is one of the liveliest joints in town – even on a Tuesday night.

Given this Dublin restaurants proximity to the Abbey and Gate theatres, and the constantly changing art exhibitions on the walls, the crowd is a bohemian mix of theatregoers, thespians and the artistic set. Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences are evident across a large menu that caters especially well to vegetarians.

Signature starters like baba ganoush, hummus and antipasti have been pleasing loyal diners for years, while mains may include heartier fare like pork belly, creative curries, pasta bakes or roast chicken, all with imaginatively used vegetables.

Service is casual and efficient and dishes represent remarkably good value.

A great place for a quick feed, or group get-together, but the bustle and basic decor rule it out for a romantic night out.
