An Bonnán Buí
Tucked into a side street in Rathmullan village, Martin Kelly and Monica Santos’ informal restaurant has real draw-you-in appeal from the road – and if that doesn’t work, their interesting menu will surely do the trick.
A well balanced variety of Irish, European and South American dishes means that pondering over the menu may take a little longer than usual in order to make your menu choices but will also allow you more time to soak up the atmosphere in this friendly, bustling restaurant - Monica is Brazilian and has an obvious influence, not only on the food offered (which is unique in this region), but the unusual artwork on the walls.
Dishes such as the Portuguese dish of cod balls, Bolinho de Bacalhau, to start your meal, should whet your appetite for what is to follow - and you won’t be disappointed with the range of fish dishes, the fine steak or the colourful Brazilian Moqueca De Frutos do Mar, with its plentiful variety of seafood in a fresh tomato and red pepper sauce.
And, of course, it’s impossible to leave without tasting Martin’s “very good chocolate cake” with its world wide reputation; A well chosen wine list complements the menu.
Offering a different dining experience, atmosphere and good value, it’s easy to understand this restaurant’s enduring popularity. Wine bar with tapas and outside balcony area.
