On this the smallest and most beautiful of the Aran islands, this fine pebble-dashed house is the first you pass when you get off the ferry and the Conneely family have taken guests here since the house was built in 1934 - Sean Keating stayed with the Conneely family on and off from 1915 till the '50s, as did Brendan Behan; on arrival all guests get tea and scones by order of Una's mother, Maura, and she'll always find accommodation for anyone she can't fit in.
Bedrooms are all newly refurbished, there's a comfortable sitting room, large gardens - and great views, of course.
Good home cooking too: set dinner could be curried parsnip and apple soup, local pollock, mackerel or salmon, McGeough's lamb (from the famous Oughterard butcher, who kills his own lambs), and a dessert of white chocolate, strawberries and mascarpone cheese with cream.
