Ashes Seafood Bar
This old pub in the centre of Dingle has a smart traditional frontage, and lots of warm mahogany that makes for a warm and cosy feeling in the friendly bar.
The pub goes back to 1849, and is now owned by Sean Roche and Anna Scanlon, who specialise in seafood. Lobster, langoustine (Dublin Bay prawns) and scallops are among the treats, but they also offer a wide range of other fish and seafood, and some appealing choices for non-fish eaters, including homely traditional dishes like and braised shank of lamb.
Lunch menus focus on lighter dishes, many of them seafood – a range of salads, for example, may include prawns or seared squid, there’s a seafood chowder of course, and perhaps Thai style mussels and warm grilled oysters; main courses have less emphasis on seafood, although you may find a (pricey) treat like seared scallops alongside traditional stews (Irish lamb or beef & Guinness) and ever-popular chicken Caesar salad. Evening menus are more extensive, offering seven seafood dishes, with more of the luxurious choices (lobster is good value at €25 per 500g), and some prime meats.
An early evening menu offers great value, and separate vegetarian and children’s menus are offered too. A compact and informative wine list includes five house wines, also available by the glass.
Good cooking, great staff and a relaxed atmosphere make this an excellent choice for informal dining.
