Ballyderrin House

The Holligan family offer comfortable B&B accommodation at their home near the market town of Tullow and, with Pamela Holligan's well known cookery school on site, good food is sure to be part of the experience.

Set on two acres and comfortably close to the capital for short breaks, the house dates back to 1869 and was extended in 2002 to provide all the modern comforts for guests. Log fires set a welcoming tone downstairs, and the individually decorated bedrooms have kingsize beds and power showers.

Homegrown and local produce features (in their cafe/shop as well as breakfast for residents); Pamela - who is Ballymaloe trained and a member of Euro-Toques - offers a range of day, evening and residential courses, which are held in a purpose-built cookery school for up to 20 students. (Contact Ballyderrin for details of courses.)

There is plenty to do in the area including fishing in the River Slaney, golfing at the nearby championship course at Mount Wolseley Hotel, horse riding and visiting gardens, including Altamont, which is very close.

Rooms 4 (2 executive, 2 family, all shower only and no smoking); children welcome (under 5s free in parents' room, cots available free of charge). B&B €35 pps, ss €20; 25% discount for children. Dogs permitted (staying outside). Closed 25-26 Dec. MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
