Belcamp Hutchinson
Dating back to 1786, this impressive house just outside Malahide takes its name from the original owner, Francis Hely-Hutchinson, 3rd Earl of Donoughmore. It is set in large grounds, with interesting gardens, giving it a very away-from-it-all country atmosphere - yet Belcamp Hutchinson is only about half an hour from Dublin city centre (off peak) and 15 minutes to the airport.
The present owners, Doreen Gleeson and Karl Waldburg, have renovated the house sensitively: high ceilinged, graciously proportioned rooms have retained many of their original features and are furnished and decorated in keeping with their age.
Bedrooms are very comfortable, with thoughtfully appointed bathrooms and views over the gardens and countryside. Although its convenient location makes this an ideal place to stay on arrival or when leaving Ireland, a one-night stay won't do justice to this lovely and hospitable place. No dinner is served, but the restaurants (and good shopping) of Malahide are nearby.
Walled garden; maze. Golf, equestrian, walking, garden visits, tennis and sailing are all nearby.
Not suitable for children under 10. Pets welcome. Rooms 8 (all with full bath & overbath shower). B&B €75 pps, no ss. Garden. Closed 20 Dec-1 Feb. MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
Directions:
From city centre, take Malahide Road; past Campions pub, 1st lane on left (sign on right pointing up lane).
