Anyone familiar with Fishers of Newtownmountkennedy - a shop of character on the old schoolhouse at the end of the village, well known for quality country clothing - tends to make a detour to take in a visit here when in the area, as they sell lots of things you won’t find anywhere else. And, by a happy chance, they also have a very nice café offering wholesome fare.
You’ll find home made soups and freshly baked breads, generous shepherds/cottage or fisherman’s pie (using local Wicklow lamb, beef or seafood), honey baked ham on the bone, stuffed pancakes, quiches, salads and much else besides.
Three hot dishes offered at lunch time are good value, at around €8-9 complete with vegetables. And the homemade desserts and lovely cakes to have with your tea or coffee are particularly good. A nice place to know about.
