Great news for discerning visitors to Carlingford - Peter and Irene Finegan’s fine 19th century house in the heart of this charming medieval village is once more open to guests, after over a decade’s use as a private family home.
Once the local doctor’s house, it has been in the Finegan family for three generations and, following top to bottom renovations, Irene Finegan is back offering the home-from-home comfort and hospitality that comes so naturally to her.
Conveniently situated yet backing onto mountains, it’s set well back from the street in gardens and with ample off-street parking, offering the best of both worlds - a quiet and extremely comfortable base within easy walking distance of the many restaurants, pubs, shops and activities that this thriving little place has going on.
The whole house has been given a makeover, resulting in a stylish mix of old and new – antiques and family pieces have been retained but, while reception rooms are smartly traditional, the bedrooms have been given a more contemporary look which gives them a light and airy feeling without sacrificing the character of the house.
You’ll find all mod cons (satellite TV, radio, wireless broadband, hair dryer and tea & coffee making facilities - with complimentary goodies) and all rooms are well-proportioned and spacious, with well-finished en-suite shower rooms; guests who love to soak in a tub will be disappointed, but that’s the only small downside to this lovely house.
No dinners, but Irene gives guests a good breakfast before sending them off happily about their day.
Rooms 5 (all double, shower only & no smoking). B&B €45pps, ss 20. Unsuitable for children. No dogs. Parking (12). Min 2 night stay at bank hol w/es. Closed part of September. MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
