Chatham Brasserie
Just off Grafton Street, the large glass frontage and dainty tables and chairs outside Chatham Brasserie are welcoming - this is a handy place to take a break from shopping. Indoors, the chunky wooden tables with a single flower on each, bentwood chairs and a soothing combination of browns and creams give the room a slightly French elegance, underlined by effective lighting and a display of modern paintings.
Menus highlight responsible sourcing of key ingredients and offer something for everyone - there's a Kids Menu as well as a wide range of popular fare like pasta, pizzas, burgers etc.
Starters include one or two retro dishes like breaded & fried fishcakes (updated with grilled lime, rocket & sweet chilli mayo accompaniments), and main courses such as Cape Malay chicken curry (with poppadom, raita, chutney & rice, €16.95), and grilled organic Irish salmon fillet (with chive mash & caper butter, €17.95) are well thought out complete dishes, with delicious vegetables and salads.
Dishes suitable for vegetarians and coeliacs are highlighted, also those unsuitable for anyone with nut allergies; some bottled beers are offered in addition to a short but interesting wine list.
This is wholesome, satisfying fare, served by friendly (mainly French) staff - not a place for a romantic night out, perhaps, but ideal for refuelling after shopping.
