The Cheese Pantry
Formerly the famous Youkstetter’s pork butcher shop, this handsome tiled shopfront with dark green paintwork, matching awning and outside seating, is now home to Aidan and Karen McNeice’s popular deli and café, The Cheese Pantry.
With its custom-built temperature-controlled cheese room, shelves of ‘foodie’ pantry items and an impressive selection of wines, it looks like a deli and wine shop but breakfast, lunch and dinner are also served here.
Providing simple, good food at fair prices, varied menus that cater to all tastes are cooked with flair. At breakfast you’ll find the traditional Full Irish alongside the likes of homemade granola, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, porridge with honey and Belgian waffles.
Lunch choices can range from classic Caesar salad, linguini with smoked salmon and white wine cream sauce, to the house favourites of saffron scented seafood chowder and homemade fish pie.
The ante is upped at dinner time with the appearance of all the old favourites with a twist - steak with grilled Cashel Blue or seared chicken fillet on chorizo mash perhaps – but Dover sole, Barbary duck, wood pigeon, fish dishes and game (in season) also feature. For a small corkage fee, you can choose any wine in the shop to have with your meal, making this an attractive option.
Offering decently priced good food in casual surroundings, it’s no wonder this neighbourhood bistro is a hit with the lucky locals.
