Cornerhouse Grill

Located right on the corner of South Georges Street and Exchequer Street, the Cornerhouse Grill is a younger sister of nearby Brasserie Sixty Six. The stylish dark green exterior and high windows set the tone for a smart, bustling interior which is every inch the classy urban steakhouse.

The restaurant is split into two levels with the ground floor offering customers a spacious, high ceilinged and lively dining room, whilst the lower dining area - down a glossy flight of stairs past the busy open kitchen - offers a more intimate ambience. Polished dark wooden floors, quality furniture, lashings of wood-panelled walls and studded leather create a plush, clubby atmosphere.

A team of friendly and attentive staff, well turned out in white aprons, bring menus specialising in an extensive choice of meats, mainly different prime cuts of steak such as fillet, sirloin, porterhouse, rib-eye or T-bone, which are flame grilled to order, served with a choice of sauces and well-made classic sides of hand cut chips or onion rings.

The Cornerhouse Grill takes pride in sourcing high quality cuts of Irish meat, and steps up to the mark by crediting suppliers on the menu. Finish with a moreish dessert such as white chocolate and vanilla cheesecake with mixed berry compote. An extensive, exclusively old world, wine list is organised by style and offers a good selection in the €20 to €40 price range.

This is an establishment that gives the feeling that it knows exactly what it wants to be, confident in the provenance and expert cooking of the meat, which makes for an authentic grill experience - and, for the most part, that confidence is justified, although like its stylish older sister, Brasserie Sixty Six, there’s a tendency to inconsistency.

However, if you are looking for a perfectly cooked tender Irish steak in a sophisticated setting, and are willing to pay that little bit extra for the privilege, the Cornerhouse Grill is likely to be a good choice.

Seats 50; open Mon – Sat, 11am – 11pm.
