Daft Eddys

A scenic coastal drive along Strangford Lough brings you to a causeway that curves behind trees to reach this unassuming but beautifully located pub, which has lovely views of Sketrick Castle, Whiterock marina and the lough, and is a popular summer destination.

A comfortable old world bar leads into a cosy restaurant decorated with maritime memorabilia, where well balanced menus offer plenty of choice with, as would be expected, particular strength in local seafood.

Descriptions on the menu may seem more adventurous than they turn out on the plate, but the simpler choices are probably best in any case: battered fillets of cod with mushy peas and tartare sauce, for example, is large, fresh and crispy, while the Daft Eddy’s burger with bacon and cambazola never fails to please the hungry diner.

A nice flavoursome homemade light Irish Mist pannacotta with berries could be the perfect end to a generous meal, and there’s a reasonably priced wine list is available too.

Wholesome food, cheery staff and a beautiful location make this a popular casual dining destination.

Open Mon-Fri 12-2.30 & 5-9; Sat & Sun 12.30-9 . Weekday Bistro Menu; Fri & Sat night á la carte; set Sun L about £16.95. MasterCard, Visa, Switch.

Directions:

From Killinchy drive to shore and turn left for 1/2 mile - pub is on island over causeway.
