D.One Restaurant

Proudly laying claim to be only restaurant in Dublin built right on the walls of the River Liffey, this contemporary glass cube takes full advantage of its location on the river side of the road. Although not large and often very busy (especially at lunchtime when hordes of hungry workers pour out of the nearby offices), it succeeds surprisingly well in achieving a sense of spaciousness through simple, minimalist furnishing which combines comfort with eye appeal. Clean-lined surroundings seem to underline the stated aim " to offer first class food with great service and, above all, to offer outstanding value for money" which is very welcome in a part of the city where good value is not often the first concept to come to mind. The owners - Cian Mooney and Chris Bailie - are also the chefs, their cooking style is contemporary, and specialities include D.One fish & chips and their variation on a modern Irish classic of roast breast of chicken stuffed with tomato & creamed cheese, wrapped in bacon, served with champ mash & wholegrain mustard cream. Simplest choices are often the wisest here, and the early dinner menu offers especially good value.

D.One : Perhaps reflecting demand from the heady world of high finance across the road, a brief wine list rather surprisingly includes four champagnes, with a top price of nearly EUR200. Children welcome before 9pm. Seats 65 . Reservations suggested. Air conditioning. Toilets wheelchair accessible. L Mon-Sat, 12-3; D Tue-Sat, 5-10. A la carte. SC 12.5% on groups 8+.
