Donnelly's of Barna

Although recent developments have changed the shape and scale of Barna, Donnelly’s of Barna is still a landmark at the crossroads, where a little road leads down to the harbour.

Established in 1892, this seafood restaurant and bar serves food all day and always seems to be busy. It is a comfortable old world pub with little snugs, comfy corners and bric à brac as well as a more formal dining area.

The same bar menu is served throughout the house, and the atmosphere is a casual friendly pub rather than formal dining. The menu offers a lot of seafood starters like moules marinière or pan-fried crab claws, and main courses of haddock mornay and fillet of salmon are all regulars - balanced by other favourites like oven roast duckling and sirloin steak.

Desserts - home-made chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream & raspberry sauce and passion fruit crème brulee among them - are enticing and the wine list is not too pricey.

Although not inexpensive, the combination of good cooking, friendly attentive service and a relaxing ambience make this good value.

: Seats 150. Mon-Sun 12-9.45pm (from 12.30 Sun). MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
