Edgars Restaurant

In an attractive traditional terrace at the centre of Saintfield, Colin and Emma Edgar’s smart contemporary café-style restaurant is in a lovely double-height room simply furnished with wooden tables, and comfortable chairs.

Depending on the day of the week, you can order anything from fry-ups and other breakfast dishes, through an interesting lunchtime selection including open sandwiches, and salads; a bistro menu offers dishes such as fresh cod, scampi, homemade burgers, rib-eye steak and chicken, all served with thick-cut homemade chips.

Then, for evening meals, it shifts up a gear when an enticing contemporary à la carte dinner menu comes on stream - starters like shellfish linguini, perhaps, and mains including slow roasted Mourne lamb.

Edgars is a charming place (the kind every small town deserves) and run by an enthusiastic young couple who offer good quality, freshly prepared and correctly cooked food - with friendly service to match.

Seats 30; children welcome before 8pm; reservations recommended; L & D Tue-Sat, 10am-2.30pm; 6-8.30pm (to 9.30pm Fri/Sat); Sun 10am-6pm; value D about £30, Tue-Thur 6-8.30pm, also a la carte; house wine from about £12. Closed Mon, 25 Dec, 12-13 Jul. MasterCard, Visa
