Older sister of the larger Eno Bar, Grill & Wood-Fired Pizza nearby on Roden Place in Dundalk, this delightful little Italian deli, café and wine bar is just across from the modern extension to the town’s famous neo–Greek Courthouse, and a favourite with many discerning locals and visitor to the town.
With a few tables set out welcomingly on the pavement and shelves, an espresso machine taking pride of place in the narrow deli and bar area just inside the door and a display unit and tall shelves packed with delectable Italian speciality foods, it’s authentic and highly atmospheric – with only the very smallest leap of the imagination you’ll feel that you’ve been transported to Italy.
It’s immediately obvious by the look (and smell!) of the good things on sale here that this is a quality operation – just try resisting the mouthwatering homemade pastries and cakes in the display cabinet – and, down towards the back, you’ll find more comfortable seating at tables which are simply set up, with cutlery and paper napkins tucked into tumblers.
Expect classic Italian treats – including antipasti platters, bruschetta plates, great salads and Italian breads, handmade pasta dishes and delicious desserts, including homemade lemon art, continental fruit pastries and the house tiramisu – and great Italian service to match.
While there is some menu overlap between this and the Roden Place restaurant, this is a smaller and more focused operation – an adult destination that discerning diners and shoppers will be pleased to find.
