Farran House

** Farran House is now only available for private rental by groups for a min. of 3 nights, no separate B&B bookings accepted **

Set in 12 acres of mature beech woodland and rhododendron gardens in the rolling hills of the Lee Valley, Patricia Wiese and John Kehely’s impressive house was built in the mid-18th century, although its present elegant Italianate style only dates back to 1863. It is beautifully situated with views over the medieval castle and abbey of Kilcrea, and its location west of Cork city makes this a good base for exploring Cork and Kerry.

Since 1993 Patricia and John have painstakingly restored the house to its former glory and, although there are some contemporary touches as well as antiques, none of its original character has been lost - there’s a fine drawing room for guests’ use (complete with grand piano) and a billiard room with full-size table.

Despite its considerable size, there are just four bedrooms - all exceptionally spacious and decorated with style; dinner is offered on most nights for self catering groups, by prior arrangement only, and a speciality is home-produced lamb, bred and raised at Farran House.

: Rooms 4 (all en-suite, 2 with separate bath & shower; all no smoking); house only available for self-catering (groups of 8-9, from about €3,500 pw); children welcome (under 8s free in parents' room, cot available without charge). No pets. Self-catering coach house also available (4-6 people, from €500 pw); Office facilities; broadband; games room. Garden. Golf nearby (six 18-hole courses within 20 km). Available all year. MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
