Mary Kelleher's neat farmhouse was originally a teacher's residence (the theme is seen throughout) and now makes an hospitable and inexpensive base for exploring this fascinating area.
The care taken to ensure guests enjoy their visit to the full is apparent in her attention to detail, with information packs in every room and specific directions given to the best places for walking.
Locally sourced quality foods and home-grown fruits, vegetables and herbs are showcased in interesting breakfasts that include home-made yoghurt, freshly squeezed juice, home-made muesli, Anneliese Bartelink's excellent local Poulcoin cheeses and a wide range of teas as well as cooked breakfasts with free range eggs.
Although a little on the small side, in order to include en-suite facilities, bedrooms are comfortable and thoughtfully furnished. As well as a comfortable sitting room, there is a relaxing conservatory which opens on to the garden and has extensive views.
There's also a lovely stone cottage next door, Tigh Eamon, which has been charmingly converted for self-catering accommodation.
*No evening meals, but Mary will direct you to the best local choices.
