Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality.

Fields SuperValu

No ordinary supermarket - central to the community and supportive of local suppliers, Fields is a must-visit shop when in West Cork.

It's an amazing shop, unlike most supermarkets it's right in the centre of the town and with its comfortably traditional coffee shop opening onto the main street. Behind it goes way, way back, meandering its way through the block and offering more tempting displays at every turn.

No matter what you are looking for, if it's good food and it's made in the South-West you're pretty sure to find it here - and, if it's not here - just ask.

Their supplier list - some of which is proudly displayed on their website - reflects the TLC you can see has gone into the in-store displays: dairy products from Glenilen Farm up the road, microwavable prepared fresh seafood from Keohane's Seafood of Bantry, Blue Haven Seafood ready meals from Kinsale among them.

These and many more small local and other Irish artisan producers are the backbone of Field's stock, and the reason so many people make it a must-visit shop when visiting Skibbereen, even if just passing through. There's always something you just can't do without at Field's.

Open: Mon & Tue 8am-7pm, Wed &Thu 8am-9pm, Fri-Sun, 8am-7pm. abbreviations
