Degnan and Josephine Geraghty’s charming restaurant and guesthouse is in a fine 18th cenury house on the edge of the pretty town of Athboy, offering the grandeur of a large period house and the charm and attention of a smaller guest house. Their son, Donncha, is a chef and returned to his home town recently to open a restaurant here.
Like the rest of the house, the bright restaurant is filled with interesting and carefully-chosen antique furniture, making a pleasing setting for the great flavours of Donncha’s 7-course Tasting Menu; all ingredients are sourced locally. There is a comfortable lounge for the use of guests, and of the five individually-decorated bedrooms four are en-suite - including a master bedroom - and one has a private bathroom.
In addition, an unusual dormitory room downstairs has four bunk beds and access to a showering area with under-floor heating, a boon for families.
The Geraghtys enjoy catering for private functions as well as their regular guests and there are small conference/meeting facilities for approximately, with a projector and an organ available if required.
There is also a sauna and outside hot-tub.
Small conferences/banqueting (30/25). Rooms 5 (en-suite); B&B €30-40pps, ss €10. Children welcome (under 8s free in parents' room, cot available free of charge). Restaurant seats 25 (private room, 10; outdoors, 8); D should be booked in advance. Visa, Laser.
