Glashaus Hotel and Suites

Situated in the new development of Tallaght Cross Town Centre, this modern hotel has underground parking (complimentary for residents 5pm-11am) and is only minutes from the Luas line - an ideal place to stay when on business in the area, or for visiting The Square Shopping Centre. Public areas are bright and welcoming - and, with very helpful staff at reception, check-in is an unusually pleasant experience.

With just 48 rooms, it's on a more human scale than many of the bigger new hotels yet the attractively styled bedrooms are generously sized and well-equipped, with air conditioning, tea/coffee station, flat screen tv, iron and board, in-room safe and internet access.

Smartly tiled bathrooms have marble units, full bath with overhead shower, and good towels and toiletries - you get a lot for a very competitive room rate (just €79 at the time of the Guide's visit).

Osten Square Bistro Bar

All meals are served in this smart café-bar style bistro with mezzanine, and both food and service are a cut above the average. It is well planned for different times of day, with lime walls, white topped round tables with simple good quality settings and a lot of glass making for a bright daytime atmosphere, softened by subtle lights in the evening.

Well trained, courteous staff welcome guests and offer menus promptly - an à la carte offers a good choice of popular dishes, and a novel "Gastro Menu" offers six dishes with a different selected bottle of premium imported beer with each one.

Starters might include tasty sesame coated calamari with pickled ginger and aioli or warm confit duck noodle salad, and you'll find mains like slow cooked belly of pork, or char-grilled sirloin steak with variations on the traditional accompaniments.

Some dishes may need a little more work to perfect them but fresh, good quality ingredients are used and there's a feeling that someone in the kitchen is genuinely interested in cooking and presenting good food - and cooked dishes at breakfast are also freshly prepared, hot, appetizing and tasty. Here, as elsewhere, the value offered is good.
