Glasson Golf Hotel

Beautifully situated in an elevated position overlooking Lough Ree, the Reid family's impressive hotel has been developed around their fine old family home (now the clubhouse) and, despite the name, it will delight all discerning visitors to this lovely area equally.

The golfing dimension pre-dated the hotel (Christy O'Connor Junior course) and has earned an international reputation as one of Ireland's premier inland courses - the views are spectacular from every hole and the golf is challenging and rewarding - but the hotel is equally geared to business guests and those looking for peace and relaxation in beautiful surroundings.

It is a bright, contemporary place, with the welcoming atmosphere that comes from hands-on family ownership; guest rooms are spacious, thoughtfully furnished, and decorated in an attractive modern style which is not over-designed - allowing views over the lough and golf course to take centre stage.

The bar and restaurant are in the clubhouse section of the hotel, and both have been refurbished in a more traditional style appropriate to the older building. There's also a private jetty between the 15th and 17th greens, where visiting cruisers coming to the hotel may berth, or residents can arrange a private cruise.

The hotel has proved a welcome addition to the accommodation choices around Athlone and is a great asset to the area. New conference rooms have recently been added, also 34 new bedrooms; a leisure centre and hot tub are planned.
