The Grass Roof Café

ONLY OPEN FOR TEA/COFFEE PRESENTLY

County Leitrim is at the heart of the ‘greening’ of Ireland and, as the momentum grows, more and more people are interested in visiting The Organic Centre, either to attend one of the wide variety of courses they offer (free annual booklet available on request), or just to have a look around.

The organic display gardens are very interesting, showing how organic food can be grown by everyone, and they include many attractive features including a children’s garden with willow sculptures and witches’ houses. There’s also an Eco-shop stocking all kinds of eco-friendly and ethical products ranging from foods (vegetables, home bakes, Fairtrade) to seeds, books and home products.

Inspired by the ultrafresh, seasonal (and, otherwise, often hard to source) produce available to them, the cooks at The Grass Roof Organic Café create great vegetarian meals to feed the staff, people attending workshops and the public.

There’s even a weekly ‘béile gaeilge’ (Irish speaking lunch) on Tuesdays and all Irish speakers, even beginners, are very welcome.

This is an unusual and rewarding place to visit and outside catering is offered too, for ‘anything from a picnic to a banquet’.

Seats 50 (outdoors, 20). Toilets wheelchair accessible; children welcome (high chair, baby changing facilities). Closed 20 Dec-10 Jan. MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
