The Green Hen

One of a flurry of relatively recent brasserie-bistros aiming to bridge what is an thankfully narrowing gap in the market for casual all-day dining, The Green Hen brings together the talents of Omar Bux (ex-Ely and Wild Goose Grill) and Paul Rooney (ex-Modern Green Bar and Velour) in a prime premises which until relatively recently housed one of the Léon cafes.

The bar beckons passersby in with cocktails of the day, and an all-day bar menu that features treats such as oysters and Guinness, while the restaurant proper extends its menu from keenly-priced lunch into dinner with hearty plat du jour offerings such as ox-cheek pie (€20 with a glass of wine and coffee).

This Dublin Restaurants food is fairly well executed if sometimes oddly conceived – order wisely rather than recklessly, with the likes of home made lamb and black pudding sausages doing their job faithfully.

Brunch might offer choices such as glazed pear pancake through full breakfast to crispy squid Caesar with poached egg.

Set 2/3 course D €19/22. House wine €22. SC 10% on groups 6+. Unsuitable for children.
