This pleasant little family-owned townhouse hotel dates back to the Victorian era and is the 'parent' hotel of Pat Halpin's well known Dublin establishments, Aberdeen Lodge, Blakes Townhouse and Merrion Hall (see Dublin entries.)
There's a characterful bar with an open fire in the basement where visitors, including the many who come to play the adjacent Kilkee Golf Course enjoy getting together after dinner at the hotel's restaurant, Vittles.
Adapting the original 19th century building to provide en-suite bathrooms was a challenge, and it has meant that most bedrooms are neat rather than spacious - but they are comfortable and well-appointed with direct-dial phone, TV, hospitality tray with mineral water as well as tea/coffee-making facilities and a laundry service, and it is a pleasant place to stay.
