Conveniently located close to St Stephen's Green and within comfortable walking distance of the city's premier shopping areas, Trinity College and the National Concert Hall, this four star guesthouse is now in common ownership with the neighbouring Harcourt Hotel.
It was once the home of a former Lord Mayor of Dublin and has been sympathetically and elegantly refurbished, retaining many original features. Echoes of Georgian splendour remain in the ornamental ceilings and fireplaces of the well-proportioned ground and first floor rooms, which include a peaceful drawing room with an open peat fire.
Although there are some smaller, more practical bedrooms at the back, the main guestrooms are beautiful and relaxing with sound-proofed windows, ceiling fans and marbled bathrooms.
Staff could be more communicative (especially at check-in) but immaculate housekeeping is a strong point, and good breakfasts are served in a sunny yellow room with pictures of Dublin streetscapes to ensure a bright start to your day.
All round this is a welcome alternative to a city-centre hotel, offering comfort and good value, handy to the Luas (tram), and with the huge advantage of guest parking behind the building; luggage can be stored for guests arriving before check-in time.
Rooms 28 (1 suite, 1 junior suite, 4 shower only, 7 executive, 9 family, 4 ground floor, 2 single, all no smoking); children welcome (under 14s free in parents' room, cot available without charge). Parking (10). Lift; room service (all day); free broadband wi/fi. B&B €60 pps, ss €35. Open all year. Amex, Diners, MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
