CLOSED FOR REFURBISHMENT DUE TO A FIRE - DUE TO REOPEN FOR 2012 SEASON
This famous old hotel, loved by fisherfolk, landscape artists and those who seek peace and tranquillity, changed hands in 1998, and there has since been a plan of gradual renovation and refurbishment both indoors and in the gardens, without spoiling the old-fashioned qualities that have earned this hotel its special reputation.
Accommodation is modest but comfortable - and also moderately priced. The scale is small and it’s an intimate place, and very relaxed; the hotel has lots of information on things to do in the area - including golf at around a dozen nearby courses, fishing, shooting, horse racing, and mountain climbing.
The bar has character both here and in the restaurant; the food has always tended to be above-average for a country hotel, although recent restaurant visits have been disappointing and ‘a good steak’, cooked as requested, is the safest choice.
Small conference/banqueting facilities (25/70); free broadband wi/fi. Rooms 14 (all shower only & no smoking, 1 family); B&B €35-45pps, ss €20.
