Visitors to this medieval town are delighted to find this charming fourth generation craft bakery and café, which has been pleasing customers (including the author, William Trevor) since 1901.
Nuala Hickey now continues the family tradition, baking her unique traditional crusty bread, artisan bread, and cakes including the famous Hickey’s barm brack, which took gold in the 2010 Blas ns hÉirann Irish Food Awards and is also available online.
Beside the bakery counter, the little café is set up with closely packed tables, where locals and visitors mingle cheerfully, enjoying the wholesome food. Excellent coffee too, served in big white mugs.
