Just about one hour’s drive south of Dublin and north of Rosslare ferryport, this handsome 18th century farmhouse is clearly signed from the landmark Jack White’s pub and, with its beautifully kept gardens and an immaculate working farmyard, it creates a good impression from the outset.
Extensively renovated in 2003, it has been the Kingston family home for three generations and open to guests since 1941The influential Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein stayed here for a year (1947-48) working on his classic “Philosophical Investigations”.
The four comfortable bedrooms (3 en-suite, the 4th has a bathroom across a landing) have television and radio, tea and coffee-making facilities, and there is a private sitting room for guests.
A good breakfast menu (with homemade breads, scones, jams and marmalades and fruits from the garden), a genuine family welcome, make Kilpatrick a great base for exploring Wicklow – and nothing is too much trouble when it comes to helping guests plan their day.
Three miles from Brittas Bay beach, it offers a tennis court and is close to several fine golf courses and well situated for visiting many of Co. Wicklow’s scenic and historic attractions including Avoca, Glendalough, Avondale House and Forest Park and the Wicklow Hills.
