Liscannor Rock Shop Café
A useful place for anyone touring Clare to know about, the café is on the premises of the Liscannor Stone Story and The Rock Shop which are both extremely interesting and worth allowing some time to visit (especially if the weather is poor). It's a sister operation to the Aillwee Cave at Ballyvaughan (see entry) and makes a good place to factor in a bite to eat - not a major meal, perhaps, but a light lunch or a tea or coffee break.
The café, which overlooks the stones and the hills, has a terrace outside for fine weather; it's quite simply set up with a servery display area, but everything is freshly home-made on the premises, giving dishes like cottage pie, Irish stew and (vegetarian) lasagne much more appeal - there's a blackboard menu offering the day's home-made soup, various salads (served with French bread), a range of hot dishes such as poached salmon, honey coated bacon with cabbage & jacket potatoes.
Home-made scones, cakes (well-displayed and tempting by the slice) and desserts are lovely for morning or afternoon breaks - and you can also buy their home-made preserves to take home.
Seats 75. Self service. Open daily 10-6. Tea rooms closed Sep-May. MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
