This handsome hotel set in its own grounds just outside Castlebar town dates back to 1890 and retains some of its original country house atmosphere in some areas, although it can be very busy at times. It has undergone major redevelopment in recent years and its principal attraction is the exceptional sports and leisure facilities offered.
An impressive leisure complex and health spa, Life-Spa and Ku’dos Aqua & Fitness Club, have made the hotel an all-year destination for short breaks: facilities include a gymnasium, 20 metre pool, Café West (for refreshments at the leisure complex), also an exhaustive range of treatments, some of which are not available elsewhere in Ireland.
And, with sports facilities that are unique in Ireland, including the Paul McGrath Soccer Academy on site, it now styles itself Breaffy International Sports Hotel.
Renovation and considerable refurbishment has also been undertaken in recent years in public areas and accommodation, and a large number of deluxe bedrooms (including two presidential suites and 20 interconnecting family rooms) have been added recently.
