High up over the harbour, Philip Horgan's popular, characterful restaurant is housed in a series of rooms, and it has a garden terrace, which makes a nice spot for drinks and coffee in fine weather.
Philip presents seasonal á la carte menus that major on seafood but offer plenty else besides, including several vegetarian choices and ever-popular duck, steak and lamb.
While geared to fairly traditional tastes, the cooking is generally sound and can include imaginative ideas - and there's usually a good buzz, which adds hugely to the enjoyment of a meal.
Simple, well-made desserts include good ice creams.
Service is, for the most part, cheerful and efficient and, unlike many other restaurants in the Kinsale area, which are seasonal, Man Friday is open in the winter.
