Located in the former offices of the Northern Whig newspaper and convenient to the city’s now fashionable Cathedral Quarter, this is an impressive bar of grand proportions.
The high ceilings of the old press hall have been retained - and now look down on several gigantic statues salvaged from Eastern Europe that are in keeping with the scale of the building.
A long bar has comfortable contemporary seating in coffee and cream, where Belfast’s trend-setters meet for drinks or a bite to eat - or you can take a pavement table on a sunny afternoon and watch the world go by, sipping cocktails or sampling something from a reasonably priced menu which is designed to please a varied clientele – the Northern Whig is very popular with people of all ages and backgrounds, including the local business fraternity who come here for lunch and for a relaxing drink after work.
With a short tapas menu also available, a decent wine list starting from £14 and excellent, knowledgeable and efficient staff, The Northern Whig stands out in a city with a plethora of good eating establishments.
Seats 160 (private room 40); Open 10am-1am; bar food 12-9 (from 1pm Sun). Air conditioning; toilets wheelchair accessible; children welcome. MasterCard, Visa, Switch.
