This restaurant in Kenmare is in common ownership with the nearby Brook Lane Hotel and, although husband-and-wife team Eddie and Gaelen Malcolmson have now moved on, the original team is otherwise still in place and there has been no obvious change of style.
In a town that has earned renown for the quality of its food and hospitality ,this place has a lot going for it in terms of atmosphere - on two floors with lots of wood and open stone in view, it has a warm and welcoming feeling even on a wet night.
The back room was changed fairly recently to allow for more seating and the tables are close - but not too close for comfort, and friendly, well-briefed waiting staff work well to make a visit here a real pleasure.
Menus offer a balanced choice of equally desirable dishes on each course, based mainly on local ingredients and including produce from Billy Clifford’s organic farm - char-grilled fillet of Irish Angus beef with peppered pommes frites, button mushrooms and red wine jus, is a favourite example.
You’ll find plenty of treats and a leaning towards seafood among both the starters and main courses, whilst desserts are classically delicious.
Prices are very fair, and the carefully selected wine list is a good match for the food. Good cooking, lovely service and a great atmosphere make this restaurant stand out – everybody loves it.
