Owned by the popular actor and entertainer Pat Shortt, this great old bar on the main street of Castlemartyr is full of real traditional Irish pub character with an open fire and friendly staff.
It’s a perfect contrast to the neighbouring five star hotel, and a pleasing place to pop into for a drink and a chat or a bite to eat at any time.
Ballymaloe trained musician-turned-chef, Mike Hanrahan, makes sure there’s always plenty of wholesome fresh local food to tempt customers - notably meats from Cliffords Craft Butchers in the village, fish from Trevor McNamara at nearby Ballycotton harbour, greens from Ruperts Farm and artisan produce such as Bill Casey’s Shanagarry Smoked Salmon, Ardsallagh goats cheese, Knockanore cheddar and Ballymaloe relish...
And it should come as no surprise that there’s also plenty of good music to be enjoyed at the weekends - and at the annual Kiltha River Trad Fest, which is held in the village every August weekend.
