About halfway between Dublin and Rosslare and overlooking parkland, this quiet, peaceful place is set in 50 acres of land amidst its own lovely gardens close to the sea in Arklow - and Margaret McDowell describes her period farmhouse well as having “the soft charm typical of the mid-19th century houses built in scenic Wicklow”.
The garden is lovely (a fernery and waterfall were added a couple of years ago) and there is plenty to do in the area, with the sea, golf, riding stables and forest walks all nearby, and places such as Glendalough and Avondale House to visit.
There’s a traditional drawing room furnished with family antiques overlooking the front garden, a TV lounge and a lovely dining room where breakfast is served - and evening meals are also offered by arrangement.
Comfortable bedrooms vary in size and outlook according to their position in the house and have interestingly different characters.
