Café Sol Restaurant
Noel McCarron’s popular daytime café and evening restaurant is easy to find, just off the High Street. A small interior porch leads in to a large room warmly decorated in yellow and terracotta giving it a sunny, Mediterranean feeling. The house style is colourful and punchy, showing international influences but based on the best local produce.
Daytime menus offer informal dishes like open sandwiches and salads, and some hot dishes. Evening menus offer the more predictable dishes (local beef, of course), but also include some unusual choices - a tasting plate of cured meats and Lavistown cheese.
Vegetarians always do well here, too - and the lovely homely desserts are delicious.
This is an interesting restaurant, offering something different from the ‘sameness’ of so many menus, and at reasonable prices.
Seats 50; not suitable for children after 6pm (high chair, children's menu); air conditioning. Open all day Mon-Sat, 12-10, Sun 12-9; 2/3 course early bird D €20.95/24.95 to 7.30pm; also á la carte. Wines from €20. SC 10% on parties 12+. Closed 25/26 Dec, 1 Jan. Amex, MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
