Royal Hotel
This old hotel near the marina is family-run and has old-fashioned charm. There’s a warm personal welcome and a clear willingness to help guests in any way possible and, although, alas, the early 20th century lift with folding grille doors and a mind of its own, has long since been replaced by a sleek new early 21st century one, the building has some endearing idiosyncrasies.
Rooms vary, but all have been refurbished quite recently - the best are the new ones on the front, overlooking the marina.
Public areas include The Crown Bar pub, with original coal fire, photographs of old Bangor and access to a landscaped garden area, a cosy oak-lined Library Bar, (also with open fire) and a new modern cocktail bar, The Windsor.
This is a characterful place to stay and there is a large public carpark just across at the marina.
Small conferences (40); Rooms 50 (7 executive, 8 shower only, 1 for disabled); children welcome (under 5s free in parents' room; cots available). No Pets. Lift. B&B about £30-40pps, ss about £15. Special offers sometimes available. Nearby parking. Closed 25-26 Dec. Amex, Diners, MasterCard, Visa.
Directions:
A2 from Belfast, at bottom of Main Street turn right (keeping in left lane). Hotel is 300 yards on right facing marina.
