Sam Baileys Food Hall & Café

The large-windowed façade of Sam Baileys looks out on Eglinton Street in the centre of Galway and, although it looks like a city centre franchise at first glance (and the shelves of the Food Hall just inside the door are stocked with rather ordinary goods), it deserves further investigation.

Muted tones of wall panels and wallpaper, plain dark wood tables, comfortable high-backed chairs and background jazz vocals emphasise the franchise feel but the food, prepared in full sight of the customer, is above average, nicely presented in substantial portions and good value.

Early opening makes this a good spot for breakfast, including the Full Irish, amongst other favourites like homemade pancakes with maple syrup and crisp fruit-filled scones.

Later on there’s a salad selection and an extensive range of gourmet sandwiches, which can be made to order. Desserts include New York style cheesecake with berry coulis, homemade tiramisu, homemade pie and cupcakes.

There are daily blackboard specials too and a long list of teas, coffees and cold drinks; this busy café is a valuable addition to the day time Galway scene.

Open daily, 7am-7pm.
