Sandymount House

A charming mid 19th century house set quietly in mature woodlands on the de Vesci estate, Avril Bibby and Robin Scott’s country house B&B is just outside Abbeyleix village and offers all the advantages of the relaxed rural life that is typical of the area, yet is within easy distance of shops, pubs and restaurants too.

Recently restored, with all the original features retained and a contemporary approach giving freshness to the furnishings, this is a very pleasant place to stay, with all the advantages of old and new – bedrooms have smart en-suites and broadband and as well as television, phones, tea/coffee making and clothes pressing facilities.

There are masses of things to do nearby – golf, horseriding, fishing, walking, historical sites and gardens to visit among them– and Avril and Robin are great hosts, who enjoy helping guests to get to know the area and to get the most out of their stay.

They’ll see you off with a good breakfast in the morning – and how nice to come back to a welcoming open fire in the comfortable guest sitting room or TV lounge after a long day out and about.

Rooms 4 (all en-suite, shower only and no smoking); B&B €40pps, ss €5. Children welcome (under 2s free in parents room, cot available free of charge); broadband wi/fi. Dogs permitted (stay in kennel, no charge). Closed 20 Dec - 2 Jan. MasterCard, Visa, Laser.

Directions:

2km down Ballacolla/Rathdowney (R433) road from Abbeyleix, on right hand side - motorway exit 17 from Dublin, exit 3 from Cork
