Soulful Bistro

The cheery yellow exterior of this neighbourhood bistro reflects the owner's sunny disposition. Moira Gray is an energetic, enthusiastic host who genuinely values her customers, chatting openly, taking orders and ensuring everyone's happy.

Open six days a week, this welcoming place offers hearty breakfasts and more indulgent weekend brunch alongside lunch and dinner. Broad menus focus on crowd-pleasing comfort cooking: lunch will include a large choice of interesting salads, while dinner offers favourites like roast chicken, lasagne, fish and chips and bangers and mash.

There’s nothing overly fancy about the décor or the food but everything is made freshly in-house, from the low-sugar granola to the tomato ketchup. The commitment is laudable, as is Soulful’s effort to deliver nutritious food that will appeal to all age groups and all palates at extremely reasonable prices.

The cooking can be inconsistent, but at its best the food here is very enjoyable - the house burger, for example, is made with lean ground Hereford beef, grilled and served with a choice of toppings: Cheddar & Bacon, Cashel Blue Cheese & Red Onion Marmalade or Marinated Beef Tomatoes.

And not only do they ask how you like your meat cooked, but they’re also happy to be flexible with the toppings; served with lovely tangy homemade ketchup and very tasty fries made with skins on, this is a top quality burger for just €10. It ‘s worth a visit for the burger alone and it would be lovely to see this quality carried through consistently to everything on the menu.

When the food is well done, Soulful Bistro offers great value - and the owner’s heart is in the right place.
