Soup Dragon

Although it may not be as inexpensive as you hope, this little place offers a stylish way to have a hot meal on a budget: a daily choice of soups and stews is available in three different sizes, with a medium portion and a selection of delicious home-made breads and a piece of fruit.

Some change daily, while others stay on the menu for a week or a season. Typically there may be dahl (Indian lentil), potato & leek or carrot & coriander soup; or try something more substantial like beef chilli or a very fine Thai chicken curry from the blackboard menu. In line with their healthy philosophy, breakfasts offer a range of freshly squeezed drinks (Red Dragon: strawberry, raspberry and cranberry or home-made lemon & lime lemonade) and smoothies, all made to order so they taste fresh and vibrant.

Desserts include old favourites like rice pudding (served with cream) and a range of unusual home-made ice creams. Food to go is also available, and a nice touch - they send customers on their way with a complimentary piece of fruit.

* Also at 16-17 Ormond Quay.

Seats 10. Open Mon-Fri 8-5.30. Closed Sat, Sun, bank hols, Christmas. No Credit Cards.
