The Washerwomans Hill Restaurant
Convenient to the Botanic Gardens and the airport area, first impressions of the outside of this popular neighbourhood restaurant may be a little dusty but a prompt welcome and the offer of a choice of tables should help new arrivals warm to it.
Traditional, slightly country kitchen in style, this charming restaurant is quite dimly-lit and cosy, with simply-laid darkwood tables and local artwork displayed on the walls.
Well-balanced traditional table d'hôte and à la carte menus offer the popular dishes, sometimes with a contemporary twist, and the cooking style is quite homely.
Some suppliers are listed on the menu and special diets can be accommodated.
The ambience on the ground floor is warmer and more relaxed than a first floor room, which has rather gimmicky decor.
[*A more contemporary sister restaurant, Canters, is in Fairview (see entry)]
