Zest Café
Mark Condron’s well-named lunch-time café and evening restaurant has earned a following for its relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and fresh home-cooked food.
Menus change constantly, but delicious starters might include unusual home-made soups, or classic options like chicken liver terrine.
For the most part, the style of food is informal, offering a range of interesting pasta dishes, and gourmet pizzas, but more serious main courses are likely to include good steaks - a 10oz sirloin, or a chargrilled fillet - several good fish dishes, and imaginative chicken dishes.
Lunch menus are much simpler than dinner - vegetable soup and home-made quiche topped with goat’s cheese and salad, perhaps, or a succulent chicken wrap - but everything is done well here and even the simplest meal is sure to be enjoyable.
The wine list is not extensive but offers a surprising range; four wines are available by the glass and there are a couple of half bottles.
Seats 54; children welcome; toilets wheelchair accessible; air conditioning; café open Mon-Sat, 8.30am-4pm; restaurant open daily for D 5.45-10pm and for L Sun, 1-9pm; L&D á la carte; house wine from about €18. Amex, MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
