Decanting highly recommended.

70     Coleccti?n Privada, Dehesa del Carrizal SyS            2001        48.00
D.O. Dehesa del Carrizal
From the stables of Dehesa del Carrizal again.
Hand harvested Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah make up this
super Spanish Red.  Complex nose of dark berries with hints
of  violets and spice.  A big and powerful palate shows clean
ripe dark fruits with a finish dominated by dark chocolate
and toffee. Yum!   A great fine wine to mark  memorable occasions.

71     Coma Vella                             2002         55.00
D.O. Priorato
Mas d’en Gil’s particular wide temperature range and slate-
rich soil that characterises Priorat, imparts a unique richness
and personality to the Coma Vella.  It is a modern expression of
Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
Wonderful density of dark, soft, ripe, smoky, blueberry and
damson fruits with a lingering spicy finish.   Utterly gorgeous.

72     Gran Elias Mora                            2003        72.00
D.O. Toro
Tinto de Toro Grape -  The 2003 is sourced from a single
70+ year-old vineyard. Only the best barrels make the cut
and the wine is aged for a total of 17 months in new French
oak. Nearly black in color, the wine’s perfume consists of
toasted bread, soy, pencil lead, smoke, black cherry and black
currant. It beautifully marries elegance and power on the palate.
There are layers of sweet fruit, well-integrated tannin, and great
balance. A whopping 92 Wine Advocate Points

SyS = imported directly by Sol y Sombra

73     Ali?n      1998        79.00
D.O. Ribera del Duero
Made by Vega Sicilia, the patriarch of Spain’s great wine
estates.  Ali?n is the more modern style Ribera del Duero, rich,
ripe and smooth.  It has an elegance often lacking in the bigger
gutsier Dueros, but more than makes up for it in terms of
balance and length.  Definite mature hints at the rim.
Quite mature, firm backbone but nicely developed on the nose.
17 Jancis Robinson Points.

74     Gran Coronas Black Label Reserva        1976        85.00
D.O. Penedes Spain
Owing to their universal acclaim (in blind tastings they have
been mistaken for Chateau Latour) and because of their limited
production, the Gran Coronas Black Label range of wines is scarce.

Possible the best value red on our list.  Last tasted on our 1st
anniversary 18th Oct 07.  It is everything an aged fine wine should
be – elegant, balanced, rich, complex and long – need we go on!

Red Wines  - The Rest of the World

75 Casa Silva Coleccion Carmenère                2005        25.00
Colchagua Valley, Chile
For many years Chile’s Carmène grape was mistaken for
Merlot in the vineyards. Here is an excellent example of how
it surpasses many Merlots when grown and made to maximise
the variety.   Hints of plums, chocolate, black pepper and toffee
aromas show the typicity of Carmenere.   It offers an harmonious
balance of fruit and oak with sweet red fruit flavours lingering
on a long finish..

76     Ninfa         2004             27.00
Ribatejo, Portugal
From Portugal’s indigenous grape varieties Touriga Nacional
(50%) and Aragones (50%), Ninfa is a very smooth, fruity red
with lots of spicy. It’s instantly appealing.

82     Feytit-Clinet         2001        80.00
        A.C. Pomerol, Bordeaux, France
“90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the result of the 2001 is
undoubtedly the most improved Feytit-Clinet I have ever tasted.
A breakthrough effort for this estate, the dense ruby-purple
colored 2001 boasts aromas of licorice, blackberries, and sweet
cherry fruit intermixed with smoke, iron, and mineral notes.
The wine is dense and medium to full-bodied, with an opulent
texture, ripe tannin, and a long, concentrated finish” Robert Parker
